Tips For Choosing Comfortable Shoes in Fashion

We are really living in an era when the average person can choose whether they want the fashion-look or comfort in a shoe. Or both! We have such advanced technology available to us and such excellent craftsmanship at our fingertips. Now if we can afford the price we've got it made.

There are some points to remember when you are shopping for shoes according to Jaleh Hoorfar who is a doctor of podiatric medicine and was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show.

Sizes aren't the same for all brands of shoes.

Different designers will have different sizes for the same number. European shoes are often narrower in the front. Dr. Hoorfar suggests trying on a half size larger or smaller than your regular size. She also says shop for shoes later in the day when your feet might be a bit larger from swelling. Get measured yearly. Feet can flatten and widen as you get older, are pregnant, or gain weight.

It takes a lot of effort to walk in them. Your feet get tired and will tend to roll in, giving you painful side effects.

Flexible shoe materials are what you get.

Dr. Hoorfar says that patent leather is very popular this year but it is not a very flexible material and does not accommodate the foot very well. Look for leather that is high-quality, flexible, and soft. She says that suede is an ideal choice. Also watch if the shoe is topstitched because that can lessen the elasticity of the fit.

The feet so not have a lot of fat on them so some padding in the shoe makes them much more comfortable. New technology has also provided nearly invisible gel pads which can be used under the ball of the foot when wearing heels

Dr. Hoorfar likes to limit her heels to 3 inches. The width of the heel also matters too. Wider ones will not wobble as opposed to the spindly kind. By the way the spindly kind are terrible for ankles. It will also make a difference if the heel is centered under your foot rather that too far back.

Very thin bottoms on your shoes do not protect your feet from the hard pavement and rocky ground. Some of our most popular styles today, like wedges and platforms, have solid bottoms that can absorb the shock of the foot hitting the ground.

Lower risk with high-cut shoes.

Bunions can form when the shoe rubs against the foot at the widest point. This happens when you have "sexy toe cleavage". A toe casing that is covered is safer. Also if you have deep-dipping sides it will allow the foot to slop over the edges instead of staying correctly aligned.

Check to see if the shoe has laces, straps, or ties that you could loosen if your feet would swell.

Mary Lou Wagoner is a retired teacher of 36 years. She has done a lot of standing in those years and really appreciates shoes that are comfortable and still look nice. It is worth doing the extra looking to meet these needs.

How to Add Your Summer Dresses Into Your Winter Wardrobe

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

In the summer we like our dresses sleeveless, strapless and short. But as cooler weather sets in, we often wonder "what am I going to do with all of these dresses"? It seems almost impossible to incorporate those cute summer dresses into our winter wardrobe. Most of us invest in a gallon totes or vacuum bags to maintain our fashionable frocks until the next season. Well you can now transition your summer dresses to cooler months with a few common sense tricks. Here are three looks great for Work, Day, or Night with summer dresses all under $50.

How to switch it up: For Work

Dresses are great for the work place. Layer a bright new cardigan sweater in your favorite color over your old spring dress. Cardigans are oh so fashionable, and allow you to cover a short sleeve, tank or strapless sun dress. Add a fun pair of tights to minimize the short length and your look is complete

How to switch it up: For Day

Strapless dresses are care free during the summer and can be a staple in the winter, they are also the easiest to wear throughout the year. Layer your favorite dress over a textured top with sleeves for an edgy contrast and you are on your way. Pair with knee socks as a great way to add warmth and still be chic. Look at the strapless dress as you would a jumper. How many different tops can you wear under a jumper? Well the same goes for the stapless frock, have fun

How to switch it up: For Night

Blazers are great for work or play. Add a solid blazer to a tank dress and a pair of textured or geometric leggings. You are ready for a night on the town using what you already have in your closet. The blazer and leggings will shield your arms and legs from the breeze and keep you in the latest fashion trend.

These are just a few tips for you to use. Use your creative juices to come up with many more ways to extend the life of your summer gear; try layering with jeans instead of leggings, or putting a coordinating skirt under a mini dress to add length.

Not only will these tips help to pad your pocket, but you can also use the extra funds to invest in cute cardigans, vests, and blazers to pair your dresses with.

A World Of Options In Women's Clothing

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

You probably already are aware of the wide variety of women's clothing available on the internet, as you probably are either a woman indulging yourself in online shopping-sprees or a man cringing in the living-room corner as your wife hogs the computer and the credit card.

But the wide variety of options isn't just about different aspects of a woman's wardrobe and body parts. And the options does not only address the style, price and specific items you are after. No, it is bigger than that.

Plus Size

Shopping for plus size clothes can be a hassle, not only due to a lack of availability since, lets face it folks, we are still living in a modern time that puts weird outfits on skinny skeletons and tries to sell it off as high fashion, so being big is really a widespread field and many women still feel a bit stigmatized going into a shop shamelessly advertising themselves as a plus size store.

Now, many women do not, and all the better for them, but if you are having issues with being confronted with judgmental looks, than the vast array of online options is the perfect place for you.

You will find full-on collections as well as carefully picked items with exclusivity stamped all over them. They will give you everything you need in accessories, from extravagant hats to precious jewelry.

They will even give you look-books to inspire you, with head-to-toe ideas for every season, and I guarantee you could even find a bikini here that will make you feel as beautiful as you are.

Tall Size

Now this is an even bigger issue since at least "big is beautiful" is a concept making a strong comeback. But if you are one of those unlucky souls not fitting into that range of "normal" length, then you already know how hard it is to find a decent shop in the regular mall.

You have to get them custom-made, which is a lot more expensive, if you do not want to walk out of the shop with jeans ending halfway up your calf's.

But online, the clothes presented to you are already custom-made, and they are made in lengths that will not make you feel like a space alien once you put them on. They have shorts, women's shoes that go well with that cocktail dress without accentuating your height even further.

The training gear they offer will not start to creep up in uncomfortable places and even if they shrink a little bit after the first wash, hey, they are made with a tall size person in mind, they are meant to shrink a little!

So there is so much more to clothes than just being an identity marker or a fashion statement, for some people shopping for women's clothing has never been the lust-filled experience they deserve. But that is all about to change.

This article is about the wide variety of women's clothing available online.

Bringing Back Handmade - Are We Now Seeing the Appeal?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

What has happened to our handmade culture? There have been many TV shows recently showcasing British talent, real handmade manufacturing done right here on our own soil, going back to something we appear to have left behind.

The biggest key change in our culture over recent years is wanting something for nothing. We are a nation willing to sacrifice quality for price. Our demand has increased, we want things "now" and at exceptionally low costs.

But are we also a changing culture? With the real love for Vintage fashions and accessorising, we have begun to recognise that in fact quality is worth a lot more and the days of real manufacturing should no longer be a thing of the past?

Recent TV personalities such as Mary Portas have certainly made a case for this. Mary's most recent TV show (The Bottom Line) aimed at kick starting the British manufacturing industry again, promoting home manufacturing rather than outsourcing and mass producing. She explains that this isn't about paying over the odds for goods, it is just anti the cheap products that compromises ethics, quality and values, "You know what the truth of this is: stop being so greedy. It's greed and gain that got us into the state this country's in today".

As a consumer we are seeing an increased awareness that perhaps cheaper mass produced products come at a cost. Consumers are now leaning towards quality goods, knowing that this is what we as a nation deserve and should strive for.

But how do we go about purchasing unique hand made products? It is true to say that finding little boutiques on the average high street is increasingly difficult. So how do we live out this ideal? It is a fact that online shopping is big news in the UK and gaining in popularity. With this shift in our purchasing habits we have been graced with some great websites where consumers are able to purchase such goods direct from the designers and hobby crafters (such as Etsy.com and Folksy.com).

A real trend has also seen the popularity of second hand shops particularly those that promote vintage style. This has really helped boost interest in an era of elegance and quality.

The popularity for vintage style has most certainly grown over recent years. More and more individuals are seeking an alternative way of defining their style and culture. Pushing the boundaries and taking their images back into "vintage decades" they think best reflect them.

The wedding stationery industry is also starting to realise this and where once there were very bland mass produced cards, there now seems to be a demand for something unique, something that reflects the couples style and individualism. Couples want to wow their guests announcing their wedding with style, making theirs stand out from the rest.

Again, the term "vintage" has been a great boost for this industry as more and more designers are beginning to realise that there is more to wedding stationery than just a printed piece of card.

Slowly we are beginning to see wedding stationery evolve into handmade products, where designers use elegant touches such as vintage styled jewelled embellishments, buttons, lace and pearls.

Our passion for an era gone-by has been a great boost to the design industry showcasing British talent and style, encouraging handmade luxury.

But will this passion be enough to take on the mass produced industry? Even if a new fad kicks in and the image of Vintage begins to fade for some, I would like to think that it has at least opened a gateway to peoples understanding of quality and beauty. The hope is that we encourage and promote the growth of handmade products. We should view such products as a way of growing our sense of individualism and reflecting our style in a way that mass produced goods just can't do.

Women Are Unsafe in India

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Being a woman myself, I can freely declare that women are unsafe in India. We lack security here, especially the ordinary women in society who use public transport to travel and do not move about in lavish cars with drivers. Cases of molestation are the most reported incident in India. Not only do people give dirty stares to you when you are on the road, but some even dare to touch you in uncomfortable places. This happens more so when you are in a bus, train or metro, jam-packed with people. There are commuters who will simply touch you in the wrong places, pretending to be stifled by the crowd. They will make you feel most uncomfortable. If you try to protest they will not only deny and hurl abuses at you but they might simply slash you with a blade on a later date when you are travelling on the same route! If you go to the police to report something, they will harass you in turn and in some cases, as recently happened in Kolkata, they might even refuse to take your complaint even if you say you have been raped! Yes, it is true though you may be horrified to read this. This is the harsh reality women in India are living with. Travelling all by oneself at night is one of the most dangerous things that a woman might have to do since you can be molested, raped or even gang-raped at any stage!

Where is the respect for women in society? Though we are in the 21st century, women still are vulnerable to the tortures of men. Female foeticide is rampant in India and no matter how much the government tries to ban illegal methods of foetus detection, it still has not stopped and a girl child continues to be deprived of the light of day by being killed in the mother's womb itself. Girls living in the poorer sections of society are lured with the prospect of jobs and then trafficked into red light areas. They are forced to work as prostitutes for the rest of their lives. Child marriages are still common in India where the girl child is forcibly married off at a tender age when she should be allowed to play and study. Even educated women in many homes have to face the verbal and physical assaults of their husbands and in-laws. Many protest; many don't. If this is still the case in urban areas, imagine the situation in rural areas of the country. Domestic abuse is such a familiar name in this country. It is mostly dowry-related. Though the government has banned the dowry system, everything seems to go on right under its nose. Of late, the daughter of my plumber got married. Besides gold ornaments for both the bride and groom, the family also had to pay Rs.30000 (INR) in cash. It seems being born as a woman is a curse in this country. Though there are women leaders in top positions and women police officers, the condition of the ordinary woman is grave. Crimes against women refuse to reduce and the politicians keep fighting among themselves instead of taking some firm action so that women feel safe in this country.
