Loving Your Body

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Are you, one of the 9 out of 10 women in our country today, who is in a war with your body? Do you believe the only way you'll have the body you want, the body men will be attracted to, is by controlling your body: rigidly exercising, putting yourself on massively depriving diets, and repeatedly telling your body what is not OK about it (which is putting it mildly)? At rock bottom do you realize that you believe that your body is dangerous, not to be trusted and is the enemy? We live in a world where there is a profound mistrust and fear of our body. And the real truth is that your body can be a very trusted friend and partner.

Do you realize there is another way to live? Do you know your body is the way you experience life and if you lock it up, or are afraid of it, you deprive yourself of being fully alive, fully present, living moment to moment. Are you willing to unlock the door and stop treating your body as if it were a wild animal but rather a wise friend?

Are you ready to Love your Body, discover who and what it really is, break out of centuries of bondage, and reclaim your female power, beauty and freedom from the inside out???

HOW CAN WE LOVE OUR BODIES?

1. There is only one way: accept your body as it is now. There is a place in us that lives from acceptance and love, it loves and accepts what is, and doesn't judge. Look at your body from the place in you that loves and accepts what is.

2. Your acceptance has to be from you head and your heart. You are not accepting when your head says "I accept" while you are feeling otherwise from your heart. That's conflict, not acceptance.

3. Make your body your friend and partner.

4. Enjoy the pleasure, your body can feel: sensual, subtle, sexy...

5. Listen to its pain-your body is your best barometer for letting you know attention must be paid-emotional or physical.

6. Listen to all the needs of your body: bodies like to rest, play, sleep, move, dance, breathe, and much more.

A NEW WAY

Did you know that you can accept your body and still choose to lose weight? But losing weight from fear or judgment is diametrically the opposite of losing weight from LOVE. Did you know that when you eat what your body wants and you eat slowly, really experiencing the food, you will eat less and you will lose weight naturally? Discover it's not your body that stuffs it's face when you are lonely, angry, frustrated... And when your body is being fed by life and all the other things it loves your body won't want to eat as much, because food will not be it's only source of pleasure.

Remember accepting you body as a friend is a process. It will take time. Be kind to yourself.

Take your first step... you are on your way to walking in balance, honoring the whole of you and living from love and trust, not fear and control. You are on your way toward ending your war. How good for you and our world.

I always want to hear from you.

Feminism, Woman's True Nature, Persecution and Subjugation: Restoring the Female Principle

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

That wonderful old matriarch of Jungian psychotherapy, Marie-Louise von Franz, used to say that Western civilization put a little gnome on every woman's shoulder to tell her that she's wrong, that her work's no good and that she's worthless.

The nature of woman is always at odds with the male-oriented world. The naturalness of women is in the expression of their true nature in a milieu where that is considered threatening and heretical to conventional values.

In recent decades various schools of thought have arisen which comprise the women's movement. The different feminisms range from the radical philosophies of the feminist separatists to the watered-down feminism made popular by the mainstream media, which has done its best to weaken the revolutionary voice of true feminism.

True feminism confronts the appalling and horrendous history of the suppression and persecution of women over the last two to three thousand years. The legacy of shameful events, such as the systematic persecution and genocide of women healers and herbalists as witches over hundreds of years, remains with us today in the continued treatment of women, and by association children, as inferior beings.

There are no complete records of the numbers of women who were killed as witches. However, in Matilda Joslyn Gage's book, Woman, Church and State (2nd ed; New York: Arno Press 1972, p.247, edition first published 1893) we have this startling estimate: "It is computed from historical records that nine millions of persons were put to death for witchcraft after 1484, or during a period of 300 years, and this estimate does not include the vast number who were sacrificed in the preceding centuries upon the same accusation. The greater number of this incredible multitude were women."

Felix Morrow, in the foreword to Montague Summers's The History of Witchcraft and Demonology (Secaucus, N.J.: Citadel Press, 1971, p. viii.), tells us that, "The figures of scholars estimating the numbers of witches put to death vary enormously, from 30,000 to several million and it is really impossible to know, given the records of the times, but it is clear that substantial numbers were put to death."

Here's one of the most recent statements I can find regarding the persecution of witches during the most intensive period, i.e. the 16th to 18th centuries: "Over the entire duration of the phenomenon of some three centuries, an estimated total of 40,000 to 60,000 people were executed."

It is as if some reduction in the estimation has been agreed upon and over time the previously alleged figures which are comparable with the Jewish Holocaust have been reduced to a figure comparable to annual car crash fatalities (in the USA) or junk food associated deaths (in the UK).

Is this a conspiracy, a result of misguided cynicism or merely a case of time heals all wounds?

Curiously, the Holocaust of World War II has a second parallel with the persecution of witches. The figure commonly given is eleven million, but that figure is considered far too low.

In spite of the alleged progress toward equality of the sexes, women continue to be insidiously denied a place in society. In concept and treatment, women still suffer from the lack of credit and acknowledgment, and continue to suffer subjugation and violence all around the world in a variety of ways in different cultures.

These cultural mores are reflected in the lives of individual women in the total separation of themselves from virtually all that is natural, intrinsic and innately female. For a woman to discover her true self she must step outside the normal parameters of everything she has learnt to accept and be defined by.

Patriarchal society needs to open to new paradigms and hand over as much of the leadership as is humanly possible to women. The whole conceptual structure of our lives must be transformed and handed over to the female principle in both women and men. Finally we need to return the power the patriarchy stole from women, as Mary Daly put it -the power of naming.

Hair Removal Product Reviews

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I am not ashamed to say I have looked at quite a lot of product reviews for that annoying condition of excessive hair. No matter if you are a man or a woman, in magazines and on television all you see are tense muscles perfectly accentuated by clean-shaven bodies.

The hairy chest of the Rock and roll eighties are definitely out of style, and as I grew tired of being mistaken for Chewbacca, I decided to do something about it. This is what I found.

For Men

There is a lot of efficient creams available online to support the sometimes quite painful experience of removing unwanted hair. Products strong enough that you simply have to apply the cream and let it fester at the cluster areas of your problem zones for a few minutes, and then you simply wipe it away, cream and hair in one swift swipe, and the thick bushes that kept creeping out of sleeves and collars are history.

The hassles of ingrown hair on the other hand is a more complicated matter whatever gender you belong to. But nowadays effective creams are available for that inconvenience as well, high on moisturizer and with giving a soothing sensation to your skin, that in turn makes it gentle enough to use on a daily basis.

There is also the possibility of specialized wax strips for men. The ones that contain cooling peppermint are to recommend but of course that varies depending on the company and the brand.

For Woman

Here the supply side of the chain is proportionally bigger, as you are offered not only products for different problem zones, but also products in tune with every type of different complexion. You can target your hairy areas with products specifically designed for dry, sensitive, oily or normal skin. Since this is something you will probably need to do on a regular basis, matching up your skin type with the right product is crucial.

The Brazilian Wax

The most effective proven method out there, this one is the unchallenged champion. Since the wax trickles down deep into the root canals of your body hair, it heats them up and makes it easier to get them up by the roots as you do the close-your-eyes-and-pull maneuver.

You can also find the natural warm wax in a variety of soothing extracts, with everything from eucalyptus to red grape to orange blossom. If you can stomach this, you could just as easily conduct this procedure in the confinement of your own home, but if the mere thought of it makes your hands tremble, you should either choose a different approach or consult with a professional.

Go The Gel Way

Natural Gel's are also a good compliment to removing unwanted hair. As you apply it to your body, your natural temperature makes it melt and then you simply wash away gel and loosened hair in the shower afterwards.

However, before you buy anything, remember to carefully go through all the product reviews available on each item.

This article is about making the best choice in reducing hair, with the help of product reviews as your guide.

Cashmere and Pashmina Shawls in the West

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The earliest mention of beautiful Cashmere shawls on the western fashion scene seems to be around middle of the 18th century, when these shawls were brought in the suitcases of British officers and merchants on their return from India. Also there is a reference to these shawls in the rich memoirs of Lord Clive.

An academic paper of the same period describes them "as the most delicate woollen manufacture in the world, so much prized in the East, and now so well known in England".

By the end of the 18th century, we find evidence of use of 'Cashmere' shawls by the nobility of Europe, in the portraits of that period. The stiff and formal dressing gave way to softer, flowing style making use of draped 'Cashmere' shawls and stoles.

The wave of 'return to antique/classic', towards the end of the 18th century further fanned the use of 'Cashmere' shawls.

In France, the earliest records of Cashmere shawls talk of these being given as gifts to French rulers, by the ambassadors of Tipu Sultan, around 1787. It could also be that the beautiful cashmere wraps made their way to France via England or they trailed Napoleon's military expedition to Egypt in 1798, when a number of soldiers brought back shawls for their women folk. Napoleon's partner Josephine is said to possess as much as 60 - 400 cashmere shawls!

Josephine' s patronage confirmed the fashion, making the delicate cashmere shawl, the rectangular 'doshala', fashionable in Europe!

Over the years, the popularity of shawl/stole grew because it could be draped in many ways and it was sensuously soft and warm. The portraits of the time (froml8th century to mid 19th century) depict the ladies draping a beautiful cashmere shawl; the paisley or other flower motifs adding up to the richness and drama of the portraits!

As the 19th century progressed, the industrial revolution swept on and many a down - market imitations were available throughout - in jacquard woven or printed on cotton (lately on soft viscose). The lower cost drapes made it easy for women all over the world to own a shawl and in many cases an imitation!

It would be worthwhile to mention here that the shawl historians have discovered a very interesting similarity between Scottish 'Kirking Shawl' and 'Kashmir Doshala'. In both cases, the shawl has a plain light colored field and deep sober coloured palette for the border in classic motifs. In Scotland, a traditional bride would wear it to church (kirk) on first Sunday after her marriage and first attendance at church after her baby's birth!

From the late 19th century to late 20th century, the shawl business witnessed many changes. The traditional big sized rectangular shawls gave way to jackets and waistcoats made out of it. More shawls stayed in cupboards (rather being seen in streets or public places), only to be termed collectors' items later. And yet, others were used as 'throws' to be draped casually over sofas and pianos!

The 21st century has had a mixed response to the classic shawl. At one hand, there is a genuine admiration for the pure Cashmere shawl for its super soft feel, warmth and rich hand embroideries, on the other the modern independent generation seeks the smaller, less cumbersome styles to go with their life styles!

Evening And Formal Wear Recommendations For Black-Tie Events

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

It's hard to dress yourself up during a formal event and secure that "wow" factor when you walk into the room. Unlike celebrities who have personal stylists and access to the latest and most expensive evening wear, you have to make do with what your resources allow you to have. Nevertheless, it is not impossible to exude a certain level of elegance during a ball or formal function, even with a tight budget. All you have to do is choose the right kind of dress for you and find a boutique that has an extensive collection of evening and formal wear.

What you want to do is secure a few long gown choices as black-tie events usually call for their use. It's up to you whether or not you'd like to keep things simple with an all-black or grey selection or add a little bit of color into the mix. If you are feeling slightly more adventurous, prints are widely popular this year along with tailored silhouettes. But try not to lean towards shocking as it may force you to stand out in an awkward way. Steer clear of clothes that are too revealing since that would be inappropriate for the said event. If you'd like to secure some sex appeal with what you are donning, you can do so with asymmetrical shoulder straps, a tube top or a little peek-a-boo cut out in less sensitive parts of your body, like your back. You could also show a little of cleavage. But try not to be so overt because it may be misconstrued for tacky or trashy.

When shopping for an evening or formal wear, think more of classic beauty. But don't go so far as getting voluminous outfits with lots of pouf or those with long trains because that will only make you uncomfortable during the party. If you'd like something Victorian inspired, go for floor-length Empire cut dresses with a sleeve sewn shawl or a diamond brooch for effect.

Now, some of you may feel more comfortable wearing cocktail dresses to a black-tie event as they permit better movement. But you have to be careful about what you choose to put on. Remember that they are not standard garments for such occasions. So, at the very least, they should be well accessorized. If you are attending something fancy, you might want to keep them below the knee to maintain a certain level of classiness. And always see to it that aesthetics of your dress matches the theme established.

Don't even mistake the notion of evening and formal wear with work clothes. Not only will you embarrass yourself but also your date. And try not to wear a pant suit during the event, even if it is designer clothing. The last thing you want to do is put a damper to your femininity with a masculine ensemble.

If you still are having a hard time narrowing down you options through these tips, you could consult dress shops for the latest trends and styling recommendations. Or you could flip through magazines for samples and then show them to shop receptionists.
